Elastomeric Bridge Bearing Pads
Natural Rubber Bridge Bearing sheet is a high-performance rubber that is often found being use4d for elastomeric bridge bearing pads. It is mainly used in the construction industry and is compliant with BS EN 1337-3. This product provides an improved tensile strength as well as a great elongation at break in comparison to other, standard grades of natural rubber.
Bridge bearing rubber is often used to avoid damage by movements, most commonly caused my thermal expansion or vehicular movement. The natural rubber sheeting is used between supports to reduce the reaction force and any bending movement that may be caused through general wear and tear, keeping the structure safe and prolonging its life.
Natural rubber is highly elastic and sufficiently soft meaning it is able to absorb and isolate energy from impacts and vibrations.

Elastomeric Bridge Bearings are designed and manufactured as per IRC 83 Part II-2015, with its latest amendment to meet the requirements of MORT&H specification for road and bridge works to Section no: 2000 to clause no 2005 (Elastomeric Bearings) and to international specification Union of Railways Code No. UIC 772 – 2R (use of Rubber Bearings for Railway Bridges).

The raw elastomer used in bearings in polychloroprene of make : Neoprene W & WRT, Bayprene 110 and 210, Skyprene B5 and B30,Denka S 40 and M 40 of low crystallization rate and adequate shelf life.
The content of the poly chloroprene of the bearings shall not be lower than 60% and the ash content shall be less than 5%. The steel laminates used in bearings shall meet the specification of IS:2062/IS:1079.

Properties Of Elastomer Used In Elastomeric Bearing Pads
"Temperature Effect" - Within the range of -20°C to +80°C no significant vari­ation in performance will occur.
"Ozone" - Ozone cracking in any elastomer will occur where there are surface tensile forces. If cracking does occur, it is frequently harmless. It is simply re­lieving the surface tensions and further, deeper, cracking is unlikely.
"Longevity" - Due partly to their small surface area to volume ratio, and in particular the small surface area exposed to the atmosphere during service, plus the location where such strips / pads are used, bearing strips / pads of high quality natural rubber will give an extremely long life - typically longer than the structure.
"Fire Resistance" - Blocks of natural rubber do not burn easily. However, if fire resistance is considered essential, then in order to eliminate softening prob­lems, sheathing with a suitable fire retardant, or insulating material, foam etc, is suggested. Alternatively, design to minimise any settlement if destruction by fire would cause structural problems.
